The concert includes many examples of the connection between abolition and suffrage throughout our nation’s history. Notably, famous suffragist Susan B. Anthony was also an abolitionist as well as a DAR member, tying the content of the concert directly to the DAR and the particular Historic Preservation we are currently focused on.

Our plans include:

  • Official marking of historical Underground Railroad sites within our community

  • A documentary of our community's Underground Railroad story

  • A historical walking tour featuring the seldom-heard narrative from the African-American perspective.

An itemized list of expenses is available upon request.

Thank you for your support of this concert program

and of the Historic Preservation of our community!

With direct collaboration with The General de Lafayette Daughters of the American Revolution, we are seeking community partners to assist in bringing a wonderful arts experience to the community while also raising funds for the development of an Underground Railroad History Tour within the Greater Lafayette area.

We hope you will consider becoming a sponsor of the concert program on the Women’s Suffrage Movement entitled, “We’ve Come a Long Way, Ladies!” curated by chapter member and opera singer, Audrey Johnson. This program is supported, in part, by the Indiana Arts Commission and will take place at the Wells Community Cultural Center on Thursday, July 22nd at 7pm with free admission to the public and a goodwill donation option. The accompanying flyer contains further program details, reviews, and a link to a short video trailer.

Established in 1890, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is one of the oldest women’s service organizations in the country. The chapter was instrumental in marking Fort Ouiatenon, Prophet’s Rock, the Wabash and Erie Canal, and the historic Buddell Sleeper Underground Railroad Station in southwestern Tippecanoe County. Our chapter would like to continue a long tradition of preserving local history, one of the core tenets of the DAR.

The opportunity to become an inaugural sponsor for this worthy endeavor would not only benefit your company/organization, but it would become a lasting gift to future generations. The General de Lafayette Chapter is a tax-exempt organization under the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution under the provision of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

The details of our fundraising goals as well as a breakdown of giving levels and incentives can be found on the accompanying sponsor page.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding the program, use of funds, or intentions of this Historic Preservation project.

Thank you in advance for your consideration in partnering with the DAR for historic preservation and education.
